LaserQuest 2010

30 Band students and 6 parent chaperons spent the night at Laser Quest recently. A great time was had by all, and we also raised about $1000 for the Band. Short term, that money is going toward paying for the band shoes that were ordered, but as that money is reimbursed, it will be spent on new music and instrument repairs.

Shoes were ordered just before Thanksgiving, based on shoe sizes from the students.Clarification: if you are in 6th Beginners, or bought black dress shoes for band last year, you do not need to purchase the new shoes.These shoes were selected because they can be used for both marching and concert performances.There is a cost of $17.95 for these shoes. The deadline for the first mass order of Smartmusic Software is Tuesday, September 28. There will be another mass order soon to follow. The purpose for the mass orders is to save money on shipping. Smartmusic - I am happy to report that we were able to get a volume discount on subscriptions, which equals a $25.50 annual subscription per computer (Compared to a regular price of $36). There are some things that are different in the CMS Band this Fall:1. The District Instrument User Fee for Wind Instruments has been increased to $75 per year. CMS Percussionists will still pay the $50/year fee. Forms will be given our as soon as they are updated to reflect the new amount.2. User Fees Need to Be Paid

There are quite a few students who have not yet paid their 1st semester instrument user fees. If you are a percussionist or use a district instrument, you must pay a $25 per semester user fee. Also, there are still a handful of students who have not turned in their Laser Quest pledges. Please take care of these obligations ASAP.

New Band Shirts

The December 7th Concert was also the debut of our new Blue Polo Shirts. These shirts are intended to be used at most of our Band performances. We intend to keep the same design from year to year. Solo/Ensemble Festival Update

The date for the North-Eastern Washington Music Educator's Association Solo and Ensemble Festival is Saturday, January 30. This is an optional activity, and participants must practice on their own time - outside of class time. Students who want to participate must commit to it and get their music before we leave for Christmas Break on Friday, December 18.Entry fees can be paid by the school.

30 CMS Band Students took over Laser Quest for 6 hours overnight on Saturday, November 21. When all the donations and pledges are turned in, we should have a profit of about $1000 for the Band. Veteran's Day Assembly

On Saturday, October 10, there is a marching band competition all day at Joe Albi Stadium. Spokane Thunder Drum and Bugle Corps is giving out free youth admission to the show. Adult tickets for the show are $15. Free admission (a wristband) can only be acquired from Mr. Bosch on a first-come, first-served basis.
